So Monday evening I get a text from Filthy Rich, Talking about this Mazda Event concert series, So Since it came from an honorable source and Subterranean only being down the street from my house I figured why not. I get there and I come to find out that Mayer Hawthorne & Gordon Voidwell would be performing that night, I have no clue who either were.

So I arrived at Sub T early like the text suggested & applied  some smooth talk to acquire Vip entry, so I get up upstairs right in time for Mayer’s Meet & Greet. When i think about Neo Soul, A certain picture or figure comes to mind, then I saw Mayer sitting at the Table and I was like Him!!! Interesting!!

About 1/2 way through Gordon Voidwell’s (I will talk about them in another blog) set, I slide downstairs to what the Bulls were doing.  So the Mazda camera crew was using the downstairs bar to interview the fans, while I was watching the bulls I couldn’t help but hear the interviews, from what I was hearing I was totally asleep and was about to be awoken after hearing Mayer Hawthorne. Then the road manager came in wolfing about a bathroom with a sink and mirror, because their tour bus bathroom was broken. Mayer and his band had to freshen up before the show. Mayer came over to the bar and asked for some “Yak” to clear his throat, I was tickled, this was the nerdy kid who was signing autographs an hour earlier, & now he looked like a mix between Buddy Holly & Robin Thicke. After everyone was set they ran upstairs and through the crowd onto the stage, & went straight to work.

People let me them you, Mayer got it in!!! He understands how to put on a good show. Of course I hadn’t heard any of his songs before, but that didn’t stop my head from bobbing up & down. Then he start Singing Some Hall & Oates, And a Micheal Mc Donald classic. By the End of the night, I was truly a fan!!
