Hip-hop has a way of leaving fingerprints on our souls, and The Pharcyde’s classic Labcabincalifornia (1995) is one of those albums that never fades. Their second studio album, packed with 17 tracks, a few skits, and timeless production, remains a front-to-back experience—one of those rare gems you can let ride without skipping a single joint.

Years later Labcabincalifornia was reintroduced with a deluxe edition, featuring a 12-pack of instrumentals and 11 remixes of select tracks, including multiple takes on “She Said” and “Run-In.” One standout, “My Soul,” even sounds like an early version of “Devil’s Music.” But for me? My absolute 1,000% favorite track is “Hey You.” 🔥

Three Decades, Three Different Pharcyde Experiences

Over the years, I’ve been blessed to experience The Pharcyde three times in person, each under different circumstances.

  • 1995 – The first time I saw them, the original lineup was intact—Fatlip, Slimkid Tre, Imani, and Bootie Brown. This was The Pharcyde in its purest form, fresh off their first two groundbreaking albums.
  • Early 2000s – By this point, the group had splintered, and I saw a new formation on stage. The energy was still there, but you could tell things had changed. This group was mainly Imani and Booty Brown, I can’t rem
  • 2010s – The final time I saw them, it was Fatlip and Slimkid Tre, joined by K-Natural, who had become a key part of their live setup.

The Breakup: What Really Happened?

At some point, things got messy. The original crew went separate ways, leading to two distinct versions of The Pharcyde: From my knowledge Fat Lip developed a BIG HEAD after Labcabincalifornia and things were NEVER the same.

  1. Fatlip & Slimkid Tre formed their own version of the group.
  2. Bootie Brown & Imani took another path and continued performing under The Pharcyde name.

The Pharcyde is Coming to Prague!

Word on the street is that The Pharcyde is set to hit Prague this summer (2025), featuring Slimkid3, Fatlip & Imani—bringing back more of the original energy that made the group legendary.

At this point, I’m not sure if K-Natural is on the tour, but having Imani back in the mix makes this lineup a must-see!

New Music: “Slhick Tawlk” & “Feeling Myself”

On February 21, 2025, The Pharcyde dropped a double single featuring:

🎶 “Slhick Tawlk” – Pure Pharcyde confidence, dripping in swag.
🎶 “Feeling Myself” – Soulful beats that feel like a Tribe Called Quest production.

I already ran “Slhick Tawlk” on #NewMusicTuesday during my radio show. 🔥

Hip-Hop’s Magic: The Pharcyde’s Lasting Impact

For me, it’s been 30 years and counting of experiencing the flavor and energy of these Oakland-bred artists. Hip-hop, like a true force of nature, spreads her magic around the world, and The Pharcyde has been a timeless vessel for that energy.

Hip-hop is alive. The Pharcyde is still here. And the journey continues.
