For the April 17th episode of Freedom Thursday, I kept it personal. The focus was on my Hip Hop icons, the artists and producers who helped define not just a genre, but my connection to the music.
Hour One was about the MCs. The ones who inspired the way I listen, the way I speak, the way I think. From the raw truth of Scarface to the punchlines of Big L, the power of Public Enemy, and the swagger of Lil’ Kim, this was a tribute to voices that shaped generations.
Hour Two shifted to the sonic architects, the producers. These are the ones who crafted the soundtracks to our lives, from J Dilla, Pete Rock, Dj Premier, Dj Muggs and more. Some instrumentals filled the space while I spoke, but the attention stayed on the legacy. Beats that moved the culture forward. Sounds that still slap today.
This episode wasn’t a throwback. It was a moment to reflect, to appreciate, and to give flowers to the ones who laid the groundwork.
