Straight after documenting the fire from Hot 8 Brass Band at Rock Café, I slid down the street to Lucerna Music Bar for another dose of live flavor (music). This time from two of Jamaica’s finest: Romain Virgo and Mortimer.

Even though I didn’t catch the full show, I arrived just in time to experience the kind of reggae energy that reminds you why we show up, camera in hand and spirit wide open. The Czech crowd was deep in the vibe and the heads were nodding, hands in the air, and hearts locked in.
Romain Virgo was fully in his element, showing exactly why he’s a veteran in the reggae space. When he dropped “Leave People Business” the room locked in for that Grown folks’ talk, wrapped in melody, with the authority of someone who’s lived what he sings. His performance was polished, passionate, and full of that Jamaican stage power.
Later, he took us back in time with a soulful rendition of “Mi Caan Sleep,” one of his earlier hits. It felt like he cracked open his storybook and invited us in. The crowd caught every word. Moments like that remind you that reggae isn’t just music, it’s memory, movement, and truth.

And then there was Mortimer. If you don’t know yet, it’s time. His voice? Velvet with a little smoke. His vibe? Soul and roots in perfect balance. Watching him live was like watching meditation turn to melody, his calm, powerful, and undeniably spiritual. He brought that soul reggae energy, that made the venue pause in awe.
This night wasn’t just about catching shows, it was a full circle moment. One stage just gave us brass from New Orleans, and minutes later, I’m capturing Jamaican soul live in Prague. The global power of music was in full effect.
