“Mo Fire, Mo Fire, MO FIRE!” That’s exactly how this session felt.
I opened this week’s Freedom Thursday by staying true to the roots with deep soul cuts and smooth voices that know how to move a room. We had Big Maybelle delivering gospel raw vocals, Lalah Hathaway killing it live (per usual), and rising voices like Victoria Noelle and Kevin Ross giving fresh layers to R&B.
From there it was a groove: Ne-Yo’s “Champagne Life,” Diddy & Bryson Tiller’s slick collab, Eric Benét, Odeal, and Phonte with Eric Roberson laying down buttery smooth verses and harmonies. We kept it moving, and continued with the flavor.
The second hour? I shifted into classic hip-hop mode, “YOU KNOW”, those joints that bring heads up and hands high. Started with Mac Miller and Smino, threw in 2Pac, Jim Jones, and Fabolous, then let it build into DMX’s “Bath Salts” with Hov and Nas, plus Erick Sermon, Redman. Let me know if you can feel the Flavor.
And of course, we wrapped it up with House music for the grown folks. Gene Farris had that soulful swing, and dunnEASY’s club mix with Monique Bingham was the proper send-off. High BPM, higher vibration.
