New Music Tuesday — August 26, 2025
We opened in a perfect pocket with Jon Batiste – “Lean On My Love” (feat. Andra Day) off his new album BIG MONEY, it’s warm, soulful, and exactly the kind of record that sets the tone for the ride.
From there, I talked about stumbling on smoldering soul out of China with Jackson Wang and KUN, proof the feeling is global, and that right before I started kicking the doors open into dance flavored momentum built to make you move.
That first hour climb hit a sweet stride: Tori Kelly (feat. Lucky Daye) – “Make A Baby”, Rochelle Jordan – “Doing It Too”, Liza – “For The Night”, LUDMILLA & Victoria Monét – “CAM GIRL”, Sudan Archives – “DEAD”, RAAHiiM & BEAM – “WiiCKEDEST”, Damon Grass (feat. Jamz FR) – “Pompous,” and that electronic-soul glide with Blood Orange – “The Field” and Charisse C & Haruna – “Feel Alive.”
Teyana Taylor showed out today with a double play — we heard “Hard Part” and “Open Invite” (feat. KAYTRANADA). Both tracks highlighted her new album energy and kept the soulful electronic vibe flowing, making her one of the standout artists of the show.
Mid hour, we saluted one of the week’s best: Lila Iké – “Sweet” (from Treasure Self Love). Then Skip Marley – “In Our Sight” blessed the set with Jah energy, resetting the spirit before we eased back into those soul electric textures headed toward the top of hour two.
Second hour = go time. 2 Chainz (TONY) made his presence felt twice (“NOT THE SAME” with Ne-Yo and “MUTUAL BONDS”), and we ran a heavyweight lane of new rap: Lecrae – “Die For The Party,” Ghostface Killah, Styles P & Conway the Machine – “Curtis May,” The Musalini & Khrysis – “Anything Goes,” Murs – “Silverlake Rec League,” Earl Sweatshirt – “CRISCO,” Pro Dillinger & Futurewave – “Church St.,” Mick Jenkins & EMIL – “Coco Gauff,” Benny the Butcher (feat. G Herbo) – “Why Would I (Extended),” Marco Plus – “costly,” French Montana & Cash Cobain – “Pack U Up,” Dpsht & tenkousei. – “Neon & Nicotine.”
Evidence earned a true double spin — “Favorite Injury (feat. Domo Genesis)” and “Nothing To See Here” — because the pen and the feel demanded it, and then I closed the circle with Amapiano heat: Abidoza – “SGORA” (feat. Cassper Nyovest, Abuti Lolo, Calvin Fallo & Carpo) deep keys, rolling log drum, pure movement.
Two hours, zero filler: soul → global dance → reggae spirit → hip-hop fire → South African rhythm and a few artists got played twice on purpose because the music warranted it.
