“Great things have always happened to me when I put the art first.”

That statement from Saba captures exactly why he’s become one of the most important and unique voices in his generation of rap. From his earliest days on Chicago stages to now headlining around the world, Saba has always rooted his career in authenticity and musicality.

Saba – Stay A While (Live at Metro Chicago 2013)

I first witnessed Saba back in 2013 at the WBEZ & Vocalo Winter Block Party at Metro Chicago. He was still a rising artist, performing tracks like “You Know Sab” and “Stay A While.” Even then, it was clear his style and presence would carry him far. Since that night, his stages have only gotten bigger and bigger, from Coachella to the United Center for Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap Anniversary, to tours across the US, Europe, and Africa supporting his acclaimed album Few Good Things.

This year, Spotify included Saba’s CARE FOR ME in its “Spotify Classics: Hip-Hop & R&B Albums of the Streaming Era” campaign — placing him alongside Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, and more, with billboards across LA and NYC. Proof that the art-first path Saba has walked since day one is still paying off.
