This Freedom Thursday episode was one for the books. The energy was deep, soulful, and raw, a true ride through the sound of real music. We kicked off by celebrating the life and legacy of D’Angelo, honoring his passing earlier in the week, and paying tribute to the queen herself, Angie Stone, who we lost last year. From soul to Hip Hop, the transition was flawless.

Midway through the first hour, between Gang Starr’s “Mostly Tha Voice” and Chali 2na’s “Stand Tall,” I went live with Chali 2na, the god voice himself. We talked about his journey from graffiti artist to one of the most respected MCs in Hip Hop. With his upcoming concert on October 18th at Futurum, this was the perfect time to reflect on his evolution and influence.

The second hour took the vibe even higher. I flipped into Dynamic Duo and DJ Premier’s “AEAO,” then doubled up on that fire with two tracks from Tobe Nwigwe. Add in joints from Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Brand Nubian, Logic, DMX, Outkast, and The Beatnuts and it was nothing short of a full celebration of Hip Hop’s essence.

Freedom Thursday is all about liberation through sound. It’s the space where soul meets rhythm, and truth meets beats.
