This week’s New Music Tuesday was loaded with elite new releases and deep cuts from across the world. We opened the show with Teedra Moses and her beautifully reconstructed version of a classic from her legendary album, setting the perfect tone. From there Tems carried us into a warm soul vibration, ENNY brought that London bounce, Jessica Jolia & Yaahn Hunter Jr. added smooth R&B energy, and Ragz Originale kept the vibe glowing.

As the hour progressed, we tapped into electronic soul with Elaquent and Rochelle Jordan before pushing into the rich pulse of South Africa’s gqom movement with DJ Lag, Ape Drums, Mr Thela, DJ Tira and QUE DJ. The Afro-heavy momentum continued with Monaky, Jeriq, Ruger, Kosi O and more, followed by a sharp swing into dancehall and dance remixes. We wrapped the 1st Hour with a burst of high voltage energy.

In the 2nd Hour, we opened with Wale speaking truth as always. Then came the tough decisions, so much new quality hip hop dropped this week that choosing the right track from each album was a challenge. From Mickey Factz and AWSME J, to Ransom and Conductor Williams, Che Noir & 7xvethegenius, Apollo Brown and Ty Farris, MoRuf, Reason, Boldy James, Cormega, Havoc and Giggs… every record carried its own weight. Whether new school, legends or straight street hustlers, the music was balanced perfectly to match the show’s pace and feel.

We are truly celebrating that De La Soul continues to create, even after losing the great Dave. Hip hop is alive, thriving, evolving — and tonight’s ride proved that fully.
