A lovely afternoon with DIESAL! This edition of Africa Incorporated was about keeping things simple, letting the House Music breathe and adding a sprinkle of Soul along the way.

We opened with Orchestra Baobab’s “Ndiaga Niaw,” bringing a little African flavor into the afternoon before turning toward the House. Brian Harden’s “Chicago to Detroit” with Patrice Scott on the remix helped set the direction, followed by Kimara Lovelace’s “When Can Our Love Begin” with that Timmy Regisford Shelter treatment.

And that’s one of the things I love about House Music. Different cities, different DJs, different approaches, but there’s a connection that runs through the music.

Daniele Baldelli & Mattia Dallara brought “Saturn Express,” Kerri Chandler kept things moving with “Sunshine & Twilight,” and Louie Vega & The Martinez Brothers joined forces with Marc E. Bassy on “Let It Go.”

Of course, we had to give CHICAGO some love!

DRAMA, DJ Pharris and Loleatta Holloway came into the mix through Terry Hunter’s Elevator Music, bringing that Chicago House energy and a reminder of the city’s deep relationship with dance music. From Chicago to Detroit to New York, these sounds have traveled the world, but their foundations are still worth celebrating.

Then we changed the temperature without losing the groove.

KAYTRANADA & Rochelle Jordan brought “Lover/Friend,” followed by Yaahn Hunter Jr.’s chilled interpretation of “Everybody Loves the Sunshine.” From there, ROE, Lee-Rene’, Amerie and James Blake gave us some space to enjoy the Soul and R&B side of the afternoon.

I wasn’t trying to make this show complicated. Sometimes you just want to put on some good music, find your rhythm and enjoy where the records take you.

And before we finished, we headed back toward Africa with Monique Bingham, Black Coffee, DBN Gogo & Ntwana_R on “Deep In The Bottom (of Africa),” bringing that Amapiano flavor into the closing stretch.

That’s what this hour was about. House Music with room to move, Soul with room to breathe, and a little something for the dancers who appreciate the groove.

House grooves, soulful vibrations and a lovely afternoon with DIESAL!
