Freedom Thursday came in with a strong soulful foundation, setting the tone early with American Gypsy and Tom Brock before settling deeper into the groove with Freda Payne and Dynasty. That opening stretch built a rich pocket of soul that carried naturally into modern R&B, letting artists like Summer Banton, Daji and hirayah, and TANISHA extend the feeling without breaking the flow.

The set started to expand with subtle shifts, bringing in house textures through Your friend daao and the smooth presence of KIRBY, creating a bridge between classic soul and newer sounds. From there the energy turned toward hip hop, with Jack Harlow opening that lane and underground voices following, adding a fresh layer while still keeping everything connected to the groove. The first hour closed out by leaning back into soul through Celeste, giving it that electric soul feel to wrap the moment.

The second hour reset with warmth, starting with Corinne Bailey Rae and continuing through timeless voices like Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild and H.E.R.. That section leaned fully into melody and feeling, letting the records breathe before shifting direction again.

From there the show locked into hip hop with intention, bringing in foundation and lyricism through Redman and Raekwon, then pushing forward with artists like Outkast and Inspectah Deck. The underground lane stayed active with Boldy James, Earl Sweatshirt and others, keeping the second hour grounded in bars and production. Closing with Common brought everything full circle, tying soul and hip hop together in a way that felt natural from start to finish.
