Freedom Thursday came in smooth and intentional, opening with Weldon Irvine and setting a soulful tone that carried through the early part of the show. That feeling stayed consistent with Robert Palmer and Adriana Evans, building a groove that leaned into melody and warmth. As the set developed, Sandra St Victor, Juls and Jamiroquai kept that soul vibration moving, blending classic and modern sounds without losing the feel.
The transition toward hip hop came naturally toward the end of the first hour, with Black Star setting the tone and Kanye West pushing that shift forward. From there the energy changed but stayed connected, preparing the ground for a second hour fully rooted in hip hop.
The second hour opened strong with Foxy Brown bringing that presence right out the gate, followed by a run of artists that kept the energy high and focused. Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes and Freddie Gibbs each added their own weight, keeping the set dynamic while staying rooted in bars and production.
Part of the second hour also gave listeners a preview of what is coming to Prague, with selections from Smif N Wessun, Blu and Exile, along with energy from MOP. That moment connected the show directly to what is on the horizon, giving the audience a real taste of what is about to hit the city.
Closing the show with Mary J Blige brought everything full circle, tying the soul foundation from the beginning into the hip hop energy that carried through the second hour. It was a complete ride, built on classics, transitions and real connection between sounds.
