This edition of Africa Incorporated opened with one of the true masters of Jazz. Donald Byrd’s “Flight Time” set the tone for a session built on musicianship, groove, and records that continue to influence generations of artists. From there, the show settled comfortably into classic Soul, creating a foundation that would guide the rest of the journey.

The early part of the ride focused on timeless recordings from Vernon Burch, William Bell, Skull Snaps, Faze-O, The Staple Singers, and Loleatta Holloway. These artists helped shape the sound of Soul, Funk, and R&B during an era when live musicianship and songwriting sat at the center of every great record. Listening to these songs today, it is easy to hear why they continue to be sampled, celebrated, and rediscovered by new audiences.

As the session progressed, the music gradually shifted toward contemporary sounds. Amaria brought a modern R&B perspective, while Miles Bonny and VanJess demonstrated how today’s artists continue to draw inspiration from Soul traditions while creating something uniquely their own. The connection between generations remained clear throughout this section of the show.

The final portion of the ride moved deeper into Afro House and House music. Stacy Kidd and Tiffany Jenkins brought uplifting energy, while Monique Bingham, Black Coffee, and JAZZWRLD delivered a powerful fusion of African rhythms, soulful vocals, and dancefloor-ready production. Karizma’s “Good Morning” provided a fitting conclusion, closing the session on a warm and uplifting note.

What made this show work so well was the natural progression between styles. Jazz flowed into Soul, Soul connected to contemporary R&B, and R&B opened the door to Afro House and House. Different genres, different decades, but all connected through groove, feeling, and musical expression.

Good music, good conversation, and another soulful ride through the sounds that continue to move cultures around the world.
