This edition of Africa Incorporated began with atmosphere and patience. Culoe De Song’s “Webaba” opened the session with nearly ten minutes of deep, meditative grooves, setting a reflective tone that immediately established the mood for the ride. The record felt expansive and cinematic, proving once again how powerful music can be when given the space to breathe.
From there, the session moved comfortably into Soul. Doobie Powell brought warmth and rich vocal textures, while Eric Roberson continued to showcase why he remains one of modern R&B’s most consistent and respected songwriters. Zo! and Phonte’s “Greater Than The Sun” provided another perfect example of musicianship and chemistry, blending Soul, Jazz, and Hip Hop influences into one seamless record.
Then the energy shifted.
Hip Hop gradually moved into the driver’s seat and stayed there for the remainder of the show. Mike Zoot and Mos Def represented an era where lyricism and creativity thrived in the underground, while Prince Paul once again demonstrated why his production and artistic vision continue to influence generations of emcees and producers. The Flipmode Squad brought raw energy and personality, reminding listeners why collective crews have always played an important role within the culture.
The latter half of the ride balanced modern and classic perspectives. Drake’s “Evil Ways” and Kendrick Lamar’s “euphoria” represented two of the biggest voices in contemporary Hip Hop, both artists capable of creating records that dominate conversations while remaining rooted in strong songwriting and perspective. Wildcard brought independent energy into the mix, while Mobb Deep, Jim Jones, and Styles P closed the session with gritty storytelling, street narratives, and uncompromising lyricism.
The journey from Jazz and Soul into Hip Hop never felt forced. Each transition happened naturally because groove, storytelling, and expression remained at the center of every record.
A smooth beginning. A hard finish. Another ride built on good music and good energy.
