Freedom Thursday opened with a celebration of timeless soul, reminding us that some records never lose their power. Brenda Russell, Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack, Glenn Jones, Minnie Riperton, Gareth Donkin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Womack & Womack, Patchwork Inc. and India.Arie created an opening hour built on love, musicianship and songs that continue to stand the test of time. It was one of those stretches where every record naturally flowed into the next, proving that classic soul always has a place on the speakers.

As the first hour continued, the mood shifted into feel-good hip hop without losing its warmth. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince brought summertime nostalgia, LL COOL J delivered another timeless groove, and Big Sean added a fresh twist before the Fugees reminded listeners why The Score remains one of hip hop’s defining albums. The first hour was all about positive energy, memorable hooks and records that simply make you feel good.

The second hour picked up with WSTRN before diving back into hip hop through Lil Wayne, The Pharcyde, Obie Trice and the Dungeon Family. Each artist brought a different chapter of hip hop history, creating another run of records rooted in great production and strong lyricism. Rather than staying in one lane, the show continued to move naturally between generations and styles while keeping the vibe consistent.

To close the ride, we eased back into R&B with SAILORR, Tinashe, Aaliyah, Sekou, Krys Kofi and Hen’s, before adding a touch of Afrobeats through Wizkid. Davø and The Brand New Heavies brought the afternoon to a smooth and soulful finish, ending another Freedom Thursday exactly how it should end—with great music, good energy and a ride worth taking.
