This week’s New Music Tuesday proved once again that great music knows no boundaries. We opened with the unmistakable Afrobeat rhythms of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, immediately setting a vibrant tone before easing into soulful selections from Patchwork Inc., Chenayder and Thee Sacred Souls. It was a smooth beginning that showcased warmth, groove and musicianship before taking an unexpected but welcome turn into country.

K. Michelle reminded everyone that her country roots are genuine with “Jesus & Whiskey,” while Julia Cole and BRELAND continued that Americana influence before NORIUS brought the energy back with house music. From there we moved through R&B with Misha, DESTIN CONRAD and Kali Claire before arriving at one of my favorite projects released this week.

JAZZWRLD’s Secrets of the WRLD was one of the standout albums of the week. The Amapiano-inspired production, soulful collaborations and overall vibe made it impossible to ignore, so I gave the album two well-deserved spins. Odeal and Jorja Smith helped bring the first hour home before Lucky Daye’s remix provided the perfect transition.

Hour two belonged to hip hop. Tash opened with an all-star remix featuring Defari, Xzibit, will.i.am, Q-Tip, Sway, King Tech, King Tee and Tha Alkaholiks, setting the stage for another strong run of lyricism and production. Dave East, Snoop Dogg and Harry Fraud kept the momentum rolling, while Nickelus F, Ras Kass, Onyx, Inspectah Deck, Logic, Headie One, Blu, Homeboy Sandman, Napoleon Da Legend, Justo the MC, Queen Latifah, Wale and Willyynova all contributed to one of the strongest hip hop hours of recent weeks.

That’s what New Music Tuesday is all about—discovering new music, highlighting standout albums, and giving every genre the opportunity to shine. Every week there’s something new waiting to be heard.
