Hip Hop was born in New York City, and this edition of Africa Incorporated pays tribute to the artists who built the culture from the ground up.

The journey begins with Showbiz & A.G., O.C., Lord Finesse, and Main Source, representing an era when lyrical ability, DJ skills, and sample-driven production defined the sound of New York. These records laid the foundation for generations of artists while proving that Hip Hop could be both intelligent and undeniably funky.

From there, the show moves through some of the greatest voices the city has ever produced. Eric B. & Rakim revolutionized lyricism, Big Daddy Kane demonstrated why he remains one of Hip Hop’s greatest performers, EPMD perfected laid-back funk, and Slick Rick continued to show why storytelling is one of rap’s most powerful art forms.

The second half shifts deeper into the streets with The LOX, Capone-N-Noreaga, DMX, and LL Cool J, each representing different chapters in New York’s evolution while remaining true to the city’s unmistakable identity. Every artist brought a unique perspective, but together they helped create the soundtrack of one of the greatest eras in Hip Hop history.

The show closes with “We Major,” as Kanye West, Nas, and Really Doe deliver a fitting finale that celebrates greatness, ambition, and the lasting influence of New York’s lyrical tradition.

This wasn’t simply a playlist of New York artists.

It was a salute to the city that gave Hip Hop to the world.
