Sometimes you just want to kick back, let the music breathe and enjoy the GROOVE! That’s exactly where I wanted to take this edition of Africa Incorporated. Nothing too heavy, nothing forced, just a laid-back afternoon with plenty of flavor.

I’ve always enjoyed listening to the producers behind the music, and this show gave me another opportunity to bring some of those sounds into the mix.

We opened with Dillon & Diamond D’s “Overtime” instrumental, setting the mood before Maverick Soul, Seige Monstracity and Marques Murrey brought their own flavors. Then Cookin Soul & Jinsang stepped in with “Drunk JB,” keeping that production-driven feeling moving.

There’s something about a good instrumental that allows you to appreciate the music differently. The drums, the samples, the basslines and those little details that producers put into their work can tell a story without anybody saying a word.

From there, we settled deeper into the Soul.

Yaahn Hunter Jr. brought “Can’t Hide Love,” followed by Jamal Moore with “Place In Me” and Doobie Powell with “Peace & Love.” DESTIN CONRAD & Terrace Martin gave us “wASH U AWAY,” adding another layer of smooth musicianship to the afternoon.

And I had to bring a little Chicago feeling into the show!

Micki Miller’s “Cruisin’” from Summertime Chi. fit right into the mood. That laid-back feeling of enjoying the afternoon, having nowhere you need to rush to and just letting the music do its thing.

But we weren’t finished with the producers!

Nate Smith, Kiefer, CARRTOONS & Kenny Beats came together on “PATCHWORK,” bringing that beautiful relationship between Jazz musicianship and modern production into focus. Then Jamal Moore & Band Electrik kept things moving with “Like.”

And when Masego & FKJ entered with “Tadow,” we had another one of those moments where musicianship, production and the groove all come together. That’s a collaboration I’ve enjoyed for years, and it fits perfectly into the kind of music I love sharing.

Then, toward the end of the show, we decided to get a little HOUSE-Y!

Stacy Kidd’s “Give Me Your Love” moved us toward the dance floor, and DJ Beloved & Reggie Steele with “In the Mood,” featuring Jrome & Ant, helped bring everything home.

What I enjoyed about this hour was how naturally the music moved. We started with producers and Hip Hop instrumentals, found our way through Soul and Jazz, and finished with a little House Music without ever losing that relaxed feeling.

Sometimes the best shows aren’t about turning everything up. They’re about finding the right records, letting the groove develop and enjoying the music.

Hip Hop beats, smooth Soul, Jazz flavors and a little House to finish. Nothing forced, just GOOD MUSIC with DIESAL!
