soulful Jazz on “If I Never Get To Heaven” from For Dinah, setting the mood for an incredible first hour of Soul and R&B. From there, I let the music breathe with sunandmoon, Ogi & Anoop, Andye & Savannah Ré, Misha & KALLITECHNIS, Pip Millett, Johnny Venus & 6LACK, Leven Kali, Jade Novah, Joyce Wrice and Journey Montana. The kind of music that doesn’t need to shout to get your attention!

But you know how the Ride works. We don’t stay in one lane forever! Thundercat & Button Masher brought something a little different, Sparklmami added another flavor, and Moods & Two Another helped us pick up the tempo. Maeta, Olympia Vitalis & Common Saints and Nippa kept the Soul alive before Rochelle Jordan & KAYTRANADA closed the first hour with “TTW (Kaytranada Remix).” A beautiful way to move from smooth Soul into something with a little more bounce!

HOUR TWO? THE HIP HOP STORE WAS OPEN!!

Kane Keid, Sino Msolo & Ficz helped us ease into the second hour with “Take Time,” then it was time for the BARS! Strange Fruit Project brought “Honor” featuring Blu from their album Beautiful Rage, a project worth spending some time with. Che Noir came through with “Grandma’s Cookies,” followed by Daniel Son, Asun Eastwood & Futurewave, then Tobe Nwigwe and Busta Rhymes with “CHINEKE!”

Napoleon Da Legend & Dub Sonata kept things moving before Nyota Parker stepped in with “SAY LESS” from WHAT IS A TIMELINE? Then we had 1999 WRITE THE FUTURE, Souls of Mischief and Dame D.O.L.L.A. bringing another interesting combination to the Ride.

MC Eiht and Conway The Machine? NOW THAT’S AN INTERESTING PAIRING! Two different voices with serious street credentials coming together on “EVERYDAY.” Solo Sae followed, Illa J kept the music flowing, and AKTHESAVIOR and Ovrkast. both DID THEIR THANG!

Ray Vaughn, Boldy James with Real Bad Man & Wiki, and Rob V kept the Hip Hop energy strong before I closed the Ride with Termanology’s “Birthday Bottles” featuring Tizy!

What I enjoyed about this week’s show was how naturally everything came together. We started with the elegance of Jazz and Soul, traveled through R&B, Alternative and Dance, then spent the second hour letting the MCs do what they do best!

From soulful melodies to HEAVY BARS, this show just FLOWED!
