FKJ IS COMING TO PRAGUE, Y’ALL! 🎹🔥

Friday, October 23rd, FKJ hits the stage here in Prague, and I couldn’t let that happen without dedicating an edition of Africa Incorporated to the musical world surrounding this incredibly talented artist!

If you LOVE JAZZ and SOUL, then FKJ — French Kiwi Juice — is somebody who should definitely be on your radar!

What I enjoy about FKJ is how naturally he moves between musical styles. Jazz, Soul, R&B, electronic music, Hip Hop influences — he brings all those sounds together without making anything feel forced.

And when you watch him perform, you get an even better understanding of his musicianship. Keys, guitar, saxophone, production, looping — he’s got a whole musical conversation happening!

So for this show, I wanted to do something a little different.

Rather than simply playing FKJ records from beginning to end, I followed the connections. Collaborations, artists he’s worked with, and other sounds that complement the musical atmosphere he creates.

And from TOP to BOTTOM, we had ourselves one SOULFUL afternoon!

A LITTLE SANTANA TO OPEN THE DOOR!

We kicked things off with Santana and “Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen.”

Now, I know what some of y’all might be thinking. Santana? On an FKJ-inspired show?

ABSOLUTELY!

That guitar, the percussion, the organ, those beautiful instrumental passages — that’s the kind of musicianship I wanted to establish right from the beginning.

Music doesn’t have to stay inside one box, and that’s something I’ve always appreciated.

From there, we stepped directly into FKJ’s world with “I Want U,” featuring Eryn Allen Kane, from his Tyberalbum.

Now Eryn is somebody whose voice I really enjoy, and when you combine her vocals with FKJ’s production, you’ve got something special.

Then came “Vibin’ Out” with ((( O ))).

MAN, THAT GROOVE!

One of those records where you can just settle in and let the music take over.

FOLLOWING THE MUSICAL CONNECTIONS

I wanted this afternoon to flow naturally, so we moved into Lucy Park with “Cold,” followed by Eryn Allen Kane and “Bass Song.”

Then ((( O ))) returned with “Higher.”

I love when you can hear the individuality of these artists, both through their own music and through the collaborations that bring them together.

And that’s what this episode was about — letting those connections tell part of the story.

We brought a little Hip Hop into the mix with Bas featuring FKJ on “Wait On Me.”

Then Toro y Moi stepped in with “Still Sound.”

Toro y Moi is another artist who has never been afraid to explore different sounds, and that’s exactly the kind of creative freedom I wanted flowing through this show.

SOUL, JAZZ AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN!

Next up, MASEGO!

“Heaven” brought that unmistakable Masego flavor into the afternoon.

And if you’ve spent any time enjoying the music of Masego and FKJ, you already know how beautifully their musical approaches can complement one another.

Then Jordan Rakei came through with “Paradise.”

Another artist whose musical vocabulary moves between Soul, Jazz and electronic production. That combination of musicianship and feeling is something I can listen to all afternoon!

We followed with Blood Orange featuring Toro y Moi on “Dark & Handsome.”

Then Little Dragon brought “Turn Left.”

Little Dragon has been delivering their own distinctive blend of electronic music and Soul for years, and their sound fit right into the journey I was building.

No need to force anything. Just follow the GROOVE!

BACK INTO FKJ’S WORLD!

As we moved through the final stretch, I brought in eejebee with the Your Friend Daao remix of “Surf Club,” featuring FKJ and Paloma Monnappa.

Then DEAN featuring FKJ on “Ctrl.”

I really enjoy the way FKJ can move between artists and styles while still bringing his own musical personality into the collaboration.

That’s a special quality.

And it’s one of the reasons I wanted to celebrate him ahead of his Prague performance.

We also brought in Breakbot with “Baby I’m Yours,” featuring Irfane, before closing the afternoon with JENNIE and Doechii on “ExtraL.”

A little change of energy to finish things off!

MUSIC WITHOUT BORDERS!

For me, that’s the beauty of an afternoon like this.

We started with Santana, moved through FKJ’s collaborations, explored the music of artists connected to his world, and found ourselves traveling through Jazz, Soul, R&B, Hip Hop and electronic grooves.

And it all belonged together!

I’ve always enjoyed artists who understand the music that came before them but aren’t afraid to create something new with those influences.

FKJ is definitely one of those musicians.

And with him coming to Prague on Friday, October 23rd, this felt like the perfect opportunity to spend an afternoon exploring that musical creativity.

If you’re already an FKJ fan, I hope this episode brought you a few familiar favorites and some connections worth exploring.

And if you’re just discovering him?

WELCOME TO THE GROOVE!

JAZZ. SOUL. R&B. BEATS. MUSICAL FREEDOM!

That’s what we were celebrating on Africa Incorporated #134.

Another beautiful afternoon behind the microphone, sharing the music and connecting the culture!

GOOD MUSIC. GOOD PEOPLE. BEAUTIFUL CONNECTIONS.
