This edition of Africa Incorporated speaks directly to my roots as a Deep House lover, but instead of staying in one place, we’re taking that foundation and touring the world to enjoy what the beat has created.

We start with the jazzy sound of Roy Ayers Ubiquity and “The Memory,” before moving into the Soul of Today Tomorrow Forever & Gold Coast. Unlimited Touch’s “I Hear Music In the Streets” with the François Kevorkian mix and The S.O.S. Band’s “The Finest” keep building that groove before we step fully onto the House floor.

Then we get into some serious House music. Cajmere’s “Brighter Days” with Dajae, remixed by Louie Vega and Masters At Work, connects directly to Chicago while Barbara Tucker’s “Beautiful People” with the Mood II Swing Dub and Armand Van Helden’s “You Don’t Know Me” bring that unmistakable New York flavor into the journey.

That’s the foundation for me. Deep grooves, Soul, Jazz, long records and enough room for the music to breathe.

But House never stayed in one city or one country.

Black Coffee and Kenny Bobien’s “Keep Moving” becomes the perfect bridge as we start moving toward Africa. Sky White, Stil & Bense featuring Jo Choneca take us deeper into Afro House with “Tamba,” before Mavo’s “Find My Babe” moves us toward Amapiano.

We go home with MaWhoo, Tycoon and Nkosazana Daughter on “Ukwamukela,” completing a journey that started with Jazz and Soul and ended inside a modern African dance floor.

For me, that’s what makes this music so special. I can hear pieces of the Deep House culture I grew up loving while listening to musicians and producers from another part of the world take that beat and create something that belongs to them.

This is me touring the world through music and enjoying what the beat has created.
