AFRICA TO JAMAICA, Y’ALL!

Another beautiful afternoon with DIESAL, and this time I wanted to get some BODIES MOVING!

For episode #132 of Africa Incorporated, I had a little musical journey in mind. We’re gonna start with some Amapiano, let that Afro House step through the door, keep the party in Africa with some Afrobeats, and then we’re catching a flight across the Atlantic to JAMAICA!

And when we land? We’re letting the IRIE in!

Now, if you remember when “Tshwala Bam” dropped a few years ago, you KNOW that record was HOT! I’m talking WORLDWIDE HOT! TitoM and Yuppe had people moving everywhere, and when Burna Boy jumped on the remix, that record got another push around the globe.

So that’s where we started!

And once we had the party moving, I wasn’t about to slow things down.

Stacy Kidd & Tiffany Jenkins came through with “Let It Blow,” then Karyendasoul & Drega gave us “Don Rosado.” Breyth & Kususa followed with “Dogs at the Door,” and we kept that Afro House rolling with Palm Monkey, Russi & The Palm Tree Boy.

Then we got into Caiiro & Salif Keïta with “Madan.”

Now THAT’S the kind of musical connection I enjoy! You have a producer like Caiiro bringing his Afro House sound together with the voice of Salif Keïta. Different generations of African music meeting in the same record!

And that’s one of the beautiful things about this show. I can share something that makes you DANCE while also introducing you to a little more of the musical culture behind it.

But we weren’t leaving Africa just yet!

J’Calm brought “Hypnotized,” then we got into Teni & Davido with “FOR YOU,” and Asake & Olamide with “Amapiano.”

By this point, we had been moving through several different African sounds, and the afternoon was feeling GOOD!

Now, it’s time to catch that flight!

NEXT STOP — JAMAICA!

Y’all know I LOVE my Reggae and Dancehall!

And after all that dancing, I wanted to change the temperature a little. Not lose the energy, just bring in a different kind of vibration.

We touched down with Protoje, Jahshii & IzyBeats on “Where We Come From,” followed by Hempress Sativa with “None But Jah.”

Now we’re getting into that ROOTS feeling!

Then The Vision & Prince Fatty, featuring Andreya Triana, brought “Heaven,” and we followed that with Buju Banton, Protoje, Cocoa Sarai & WondaGurl on “Oh My (#SaveSoil).”

One thing I enjoy about moving from African music into Jamaican music is hearing how those musical relationships connect. You can hear different histories, different approaches to rhythm, and different ways artists express themselves.

That’s why I love programming a show like this. I’m not just throwing records together because they fit into a genre. I want the music to take us somewhere!

And we still had a little more Jamaica to enjoy!

NOW LET’S GET INTO SOME DANCEHALL!

Konshens, Stadic & Jonny Blaze came through with “So Blessed,” and then Million Stylez brought “Miss Fatty.”

But I had one more record I wanted to share before we got out of there.

SUPER CAT!

Man, that Inna Di Jungle remix project was FIRE!

Super Cat is one of those artists whose voice and delivery are instantly recognizable to anybody who’s spent some time with Dancehall. And hearing that sound brought into a new remix project? I’m here for it!

We closed the show with “Ja,” featuring Super Cat, NINJAH ROCKERZ & Gacha Medz.

What a way to finish the afternoon!

THAT’S AFRICA INCORPORATED!

We started with one of the biggest Amapiano records to cross international borders, spent some time enjoying Afro House and Afrobeats, then flew over to Jamaica for Reggae and a Dancehall finish!

That’s the beauty of MUSIC!

You don’t have to speak the same language, live on the same continent or come from the same background to connect with a rhythm.

And that’s what I enjoy sharing with y’all every Monday and Thursday.

The MUSIC, the CULTURE and the CONNECTION!

Africa to Jamaica, and another DOPE afternoon with DIESAL!
