New Music Tuesday is all about discovering what’s new, and this week the ride covered plenty of ground. We kicked things off with MorMor’s latest single before sliding into a beautiful stretch of soul, R&B and jazz featuring Allison Russell & Norah Jones, Elmiene & Fujii Kaze, NNORDY, Coco Jones, The-Dream, Ciara, Leon Bridges, Mannywellz and more. Every record seemed to build naturally into the next, creating one of those first hours that simply felt good from beginning to end.

The show continued around the globe with Afrobeats from Reekado Banks, dancehall courtesy of Popcaan, and hip hop from Suté Iwar before closing the first hour with a laid-back collaboration from Slightly Stoopid, Wiz Khalifa and G. Love & Special Sauce.

The second hour wasted no time turning up the energy. Nyota Parker & Jay Jody’s Confused Admiration was easily one of my favorite albums released this week, blending sharp lyricism with smooth production that kept pulling me back. Rome Streetz also delivered another heavyweight project, continuing his incredible run with bars and production that remind listeners why he’s become one of the strongest voices in New York hip hop today.

Rick Ross returned with a fresh album alongside Jeezy and Leon Thomas, while The Alchemist, Oh No & Gangrene also delivered a hard-hitting new project. Jim Jones, Rapsody, Larry June, Marcus Harvey & Mick Jenkins, Nigel Sylvester, Derek Minor and many more helped make this a second hour packed with quality hip hop from start to finish.

And before I sign off, don’t sleep on Leon Bridges’ new album Happiness Anytime. If you’re looking for soulful songwriting, warm production and one of the best listening experiences released this week, make sure it finds its way into your rotation.
