This edition of Africa Incorporated belongs to the men of R&B.

We started with Carl Thomas and “I Wish,” immediately setting the mood before Musiq Soulchild and Dwele brought that unmistakable Soul into the mix. From there, Mario and Ne-Yo helped move us into another generation of R&B where smooth vocals, strong songwriting and polished production kept the genre evolving.

Jamie Foxx and T-Pain brought “Blame It,” Trey Songz followed with “Say Aah,” and Usher reminded us just how many classics came from an era when R&B records could dominate both the club and the slow-jam portion of the night.

But this show wasn’t only about the bigger crossover records.

Donell Jones, Avant and Glenn Lewis brought us back into that deep R&B pocket, while Case & Joe’s “Faded Pictures” delivered the kind of record that can instantly take you back to another time. Lloyd kept the energy moving before we closed out the session.

Love. Heartbreak. Relationships. Desire. Party records. Slow jams.

The men of R&B have given us a soundtrack for all of it, and this episode was about giving some of those voices their time.
