We jumped out the gate with Newcleus’ “Jam On It” and the fire was lit from the start! Chocolate Milk, Gil Scott-Heron and Trouble Funk got us into the Soul and Funk before Afrika Bambaataa & The Jazzy 5 brought those early Hip Hop rhythms into the Ride. Jaylib, Black Moon, Method Man & Redman and Little Brother kept things moving before I let a little bounce into the room with Nia Archives and PinkPantheress.
Tyler, The Creator and The Internet gave us some Odd Future flavor, then Chicago’s own Steve Poindexter closed the first hour with the House classic “Computer Madness.” That first hour alone went from Electro and Funk through Soul, Hip Hop, electronic sounds and House. That’s Freedom Thursday!
Hour two opened with DNA serving up “Tom’s Diner” before we slid right back into some smooth Soul with The Masqueraders, The Whatnauts and Roy Ayers. J*Davey changed the vibration with “Private Parts,” and then Hip Hop came right back through the door.
MF DOOM kept it uptempo, Smoke DZA & Pete Rock brought “1 of 1,” and Chuck Inglish did his thang alongside Ab-Soul and Mac Miller. Then I needed some strong estrogen in the mix. Young M.A. stepped in with “Big Steppa,” and I was already itching for some GloRilla, so once she entered the Ride, one joint wasn’t enough. We got “HOLLON,” “Yeah Glo!” and her appearance alongside Tyler, The Creator, Sexyy Red and Lil Wayne on “Sticky.”
Jean Grae kept that energy moving before Marlon Craft, Michael Christmas, Chris Crack, Girl Talk and Stann Smith helped bring us home with some decent Hip Hop vibes to close it out.
From Newcleus and Gil Scott-Heron to Steve Poindexter, MF DOOM, Young M.A., GloRilla and Jean Grae, there was no reason to stay in one lane.
