Bahamadia started the FLOW, and from there Africa Incorporated stayed Hip Hop from beginning to end!

We opened with “Uknowhowwedu” before Foxy Brown and MC Lyte kept that energy moving. Then Samara Cyn stepped in and pushed us into the newer generation, giving us a run of women on the mic from different eras with different styles, voices and approaches.

I let Kiefer get in with “NewLevels NewDevils.” His album Memory Bomb is a gem and one I’ve been enjoying, and with Tony Stone, Erick the Architect and CARRTOONS involved, it gave us another angle on where Hip Hop can go musically. Robert Glasper and Yebba kept that musical side of the journey moving before it was time to bring Chicago into the conversation.

That Chicago youngin Young Roddo stepped up and spoke the WORD with “11:59 in Chicago.”

Then we went back.

D.I.T.C. brought A.G., Big L, Diamond D, Lord Finesse and O.C. together on “Day One,” followed by O.C.’s “Time’s Up.” Redman jumped in with “Da Bump,” and Diamond D with Sadat X kept that stretch rooted in the kind of Hip Hop where the beat and the MC both have something to prove.

But the bars weren’t finished.

Che Noir & 7xvethegenius, Tierra Whack, Wale & Jean Grae, and Quelle Chris with Guilty Simpson and The Alchemist kept moving the show through different generations of lyricism without losing the foundation.

And then we went left and let that Chicago boiii Lupe Fiasco bring us home with “Paris, Tokyo.”

That’s what this show was about. No jumping into another genre to change the mood. Hip Hop from start to finish.Women on the mic, new voices, established MCs, Chicago, D.I.T.C., different generations and different approaches to the culture.
