⏰ Starts: 19:30
🎹 Choice: Ondřej Pivec + Shabaka
🎶 Prague Sounds 2026

I was happy to hear directly from Ondřej Pivec when he reached out and put this night on my radar.

And after looking at what he has built for Prague Sounds, this is not simply Ondřej coming home to play another concert.

He is taking over the night.

For the third year of Prague Sounds’ artist-curated Choice project, Ondřej gets the keys and creates the program himself, bringing together Shabaka Hutchings, his own Greatest Hits 4000, invited guests and a late-night jam with musicians connected to his New York world.

That sounds like my kind of evening.

🎷 SHABAKA OPENS THE DOOR

The night begins at 19:30 with Shabaka Hutchings on flutes, joined by Dudu Kouate on percussion.

If you have followed where adventurous jazz has been moving over the last decade, Shabaka is hard to miss.

His work with Sons of Kemet and The Comet Is Coming helped create a space where jazz could comfortably collide with Hip Hop, electronic music, Afro-diasporic rhythms and heavier experimental sounds.

His recent direction has moved deeper into flutes and breath-driven music, so this should set a completely different atmosphere before Ondřej’s part of the evening begins.

That is already enough to make the night interesting.

But they are just getting started.

🎹 ONDŘEJ PIVEC & GREATEST HITS 4000

At 20:30, Ondřej takes over with Greatest Hits 4000.

🎹 Ondřej Pivec – organ / keys
🎹 Jan Uvira – keyboards
🎸 Kryštof Tomeček – guitar
🎸 Jan Jakubec – bass
🥁 Filip Ernst – drums

If you have seen Greatest Hits 4000 before, you already know this band does not sit neatly inside one musical box.

Jazz is there.

Funk is there.

Soul is there.

Groove is definitely there.

But the real attraction is hearing musicians who are comfortable enough with each other to let the music move.

I caught Ondřej and the band at Jazz Dock before, and that performance is actually part of the official Prague Sounds page for this event now, which was a nice surprise for me.

That video captures exactly what I enjoy about watching these musicians: everybody has room to speak, but nobody has to fight for attention.

The groove keeps everybody connected.

🇺🇸 PRAGUE, NEW YORK AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

Ondřej’s story with Prague Sounds runs deeper than this one night.

One of the important moments came back in 2013, when he appeared with Gregory Porter at the festival. That connection eventually developed into Ondřej becoming part of Porter’s band.

But Ondřej had already been building his musical life in the United States.

He has been based there since 2009, working inside New York jazz clubs, R&B circles and Black church gospel environments.

That experience matters when you hear him play.

You can hear the Czech musician.

You can hear New York.

You can hear church.

You can hear Jazz.

You can hear Soul and Funk.

It all mixes.

And on November 5, he gets to bring those worlds together in Prague on his own terms.

🔥 THEN THE NIGHT OPENS UP

At 22:00, things loosen even further with Ondřej Pivec & Friends.

This part becomes a proper jam session with musicians from his New York circle and featured American guests.

🎹 Ondřej Pivec – organ
🎹 Jan Uvira – keys
🎸 Ricky Pistone – guitar
🎸 Eugene Rogers – bass
🥁 Vince Golly – drums

And this might be the part of the night where anything can happen.

A planned concert has structure.

A jam has conversation.

Someone starts an idea, somebody else responds, and suddenly the music goes somewhere nobody necessarily planned five minutes earlier.

That is one of the things I love about Jazz in the first place.

🎶 THREE DIFFERENT SIDES OF ONE NIGHT

That is what makes this Choice program work for me.

You are not buying a ticket for one set and going home.

You are getting three different musical environments:

🎷 19:30 – Shabaka + Dudu Kouate
🎹 20:30 – Ondřej Pivec & Greatest Hits 4000
🔥 22:00 – Ondřej Pivec & Friends Jam Session

Different musicians.

Different energy.

Different approaches.

But all connected through exploration.

And with Ondřej curating the entire thing, there is a personal thread running through the night instead of it feeling like three random performances stacked together.

🙌 WELCOME BACK TO PRAHA

I always appreciate when artists reach out directly and say, essentially, you need to know about this one.

Ondřej did exactly that.

And after seeing the full program, I understand why.

This feels like more than another stop on a calendar. It is an artist coming back into Prague with the opportunity to show several different sides of his musical world in one night.

From Shabaka’s experimental flute work, to Greatest Hits 4000, to a late session connecting Prague and New York musicians, there is plenty here for people who like Jazz but also enjoy seeing what happens when Jazz refuses to stay in one lane.
