New Music Tuesday was back with another two hours of fresh discoveries, international sounds, and Hip Hop releases that kept the energy moving! This week’s journey took us through Reggae, Dub, electronic music, African dance rhythms, Soul, R&B, and a second hour packed with Hip Hop. Different continents, different musical influences, but everything connected through the music!

I opened the show with Moses Boyd and Guess I’ll Be Alright from his Songs For Sinners project. A great way to set the atmosphere before moving straight into some Reggae and Dub vibrations with Eesah & Little Lion Sound on Running, followed by Mighty Diamonds and I Need a Dub. Tiwa Savage brought the Afrobeats with African Baddie, and from there we started moving deeper into electronic territory.

OMEGA NEBULA delivered The Time Is Now, followed by Fast Eddie’s Can’t Live Without Me in the Ben Liebrand Underground Rework. That stretch also gave me an opportunity to acknowledge the influence of Detroit techno pioneer Juan Atkins and the electronic music culture that continues connecting dance floors around the world.

Then the African rhythms really started moving! Dankie Boi brought the Gqom with Seku Late, Dzo 729 represented Amapiano with Black Spades, and Afro Medusa’s Pasilda kept the House energy flowing. From Reggae to electronic music and African dance floors, the first hour was already covering some serious musical ground!

We eased into the Soul and R&B with Eric Benét’s Heaven, Parisalexa’s HOLD THE LIGHT, Full Crate featuring Nina Ann Nelson on Try Again Tomorrow, and K-Riz alongside Bubby Lewis, Octavio N. Santos, and Geneva on Set U Free. Deb Fan added Mantis, before El Michels Affair & Ahemaa Nwomkro brought us Oh Medaase!, reconnecting the journey with African musical influences.

And just like that, the second hour was ready for Hip Hop!

Moses Boyd returned with Say Yeah, bridging the two hours before Chicago’s Philmore Greene opened the Hip Hop selections with Salute Raekwon from Philmore and Phriends, Vol. 1. From there, Papoose delivered Handshakes With Snakes, followed by Curren$y, Rome Streetz & Harry Fraud on The Telethon. Spoda & Passport Rav brought Twistedfrom Strong Isl, New Jerz, while Casey Veggies represented with On The Road from Since Y’all Forgot 2.

The records kept coming! Erick the Architect connected with Ghostface Killah and Fergie Baby on YERR, Planet Asia & Local Astronauts delivered F.A.F.O., and Kai Banks returned to the playlist with On My Worst Day.

Hit-Boy brought CANNONBALL from The Chauncey Hollis Project II, followed by Chicago’s Pivot Gang with Saba, MFnMelo, Joseph Chilliams, Frsh Waters, and DaeDaePivot on Location. That was followed by Snoop Dogg & Kurupt on Priceless, Kool Keith’s Wall Street/ Rework, and 2 Chainz with A Week In Paris.

The final stretch kept the bars moving with Seph Pablo, DeevoDaGenius & Boldy James on PRO BALL, Sheek Louch’s Gloves Off, and J.Larry closing with REAL RAPZ MAKE MAGIC. From the first Hip Hop selection to the final record, the artists were hitting their stride, bringing different flows, production styles, and lyrical approaches into one continuous journey.

What I love about New Music Tuesday is that we’re never restricted to one sound or one part of the world. We can start with British Jazz-influenced electronic music, travel through Reggae and Dub, connect with African dance culture, settle into Soul and R&B, and finish with an hour of underground Hip Hop without missing a beat.

This is what New Music Tuesday does… finding what’s new and showcasing it for the masses!
