The Ride With ChuckDiesal | October 22, 2026 | Show #457
GOOD VIBRATIONS, BEAUTIFUL VOICES & SOME SERIOUS HIP HOP BARS!! 🎶🔥
This week’s Freedom Thursday was one of those shows where the energy just kept flowing! We started with some familiar sounds, moved into a beautiful collection of Soul and R&B, crossed a few musical boundaries, and then opened the second hour with something completely unexpected!
That’s the beauty of Freedom Thursday. Sometimes the musical journey makes perfect sense, and sometimes the best part is not knowing exactly where we’re heading!
HOUR ONE: GOOD VIBRATIONS & SOULFUL ENERGY!
I opened the Ride with Maroon 5 and “Sunday Morning” from Songs About Jane. A familiar record with a beautiful groove that set the mood for what was coming next.
And after that?
THE WOMEN TOOK OVER THE RIDE!!
Nia Smith stepped in with “High” from her Mahogany Sessions recording, followed by Nia Chennai with “Wasting Time.” Both brought their own character and soulful expression to the show, and the atmosphere was already feeling GOOD!
Chlöe followed with “Surprise,” bringing some contemporary R&B flavor before DaniLeigh and Lil Baby gave us the remix of “Lil Bebe.”
We were still riding those R&B grooves, but the Hip Hop influence was starting to creep into the mix!
ENNY came through with “Charge It,” adding her own style and perspective, before Amaria brought us back into that smooth Soul territory with “Beggin’.”
Jorja Smith followed with “Try Me” from falling or flying, and Kehlani kept the energy moving with “Nights Like This” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
THE VIBRATIONS AND GOOD ENERGY WERE HARD TO MISS!
Neya brought “Feels,” Ari Elle followed with “skylight,” and Nyah Grace stepped in with “Back of the Cab” from Divinely Devoted.
What I loved about this stretch was how naturally the music connected. Different voices, different productions and different approaches to R&B, but the feeling remained consistent.
Amaria returned with “All I’d Ever Know,” giving us another beautiful moment before N3WYRKLA brought “it don’t hit no more.”
Then I shifted the musical scenery with ÃO and “Mulher” from Ao Mar. Another example of how a little alternative flavor can fit perfectly into a soulful journey!
Milly Mango followed with “Good Life,” adding some Hip Hop character as we approached the end of the first hour.
ONE HOUR OF SOUL, R&B, GOOD ENERGY AND A FEW SURPRISES!
But the second hour?
WE WERE ABOUT TO CHANGE THE WHOLE ATMOSPHERE!!
HOUR TWO: TOKYO CALLING & THE HIP HOP STORE WAS OPEN!! 🎤🔥
I decided to bring in the GODZILLA THEME!
That’s right! A little cinematic drama to announce that we were heading somewhere DIFFERENT!
And then came ATARASHII GAKKO! with “Tokyo Calling!”
WHAT AN ENTRANCE!!
From those Japanese Pop sounds, I shifted straight into Hip Hop, and once the BARS started flowing, THEY DIDN’T STOP!
J. Cole stepped in with “Sideline Story,” followed by Slum Village & Robert Glasper with “Since 92.”
Now THAT’S a combination I can get behind! Hip Hop meeting the musical sophistication of Robert Glasper, bringing together two worlds that have always had a strong connection.
Rejjie Snow continued with “PURPLE TUESDAY” featuring Jesse Boykins III & Joey Bada$$, before will.i.am brought “Money” featuring Huck Fynn, Oezlem & The Horn Dogs.
We were moving through different eras and styles of Hip Hop, and I was enjoying every transition!
Then Mos Def came through with “Crime & Medicine” from True Magic.
And from there?
THE WU-TANG FAMILY WAS IN THE BUILDING!! 👐🔥
GZA brought “Swordsman” from Liquid Swords, followed by Ghostface Killah with “Fish” from Ironman.
Two CLASSICS!
But I wasn’t finished!
WU-TANG CLAN — “TRIUMPH!”
COME ON NOW!!
One of those records that reminds you just how powerful a collection of great MCs can be when everybody brings their own style to the table!
THE ENERGY OF HIP HOP CAN’T BE DENIED!!
And we kept it moving!
Freddie Gibbs, The Alchemist & Anderson .Paak stepped in with “Ensalada” from Alfredo 2, bringing another serious combination of talent into the Ride.
Lupe Fiasco followed with “SEATTLE” featuring Nayirah from DRILL MUSIC IN ZION.
Then Translee brought “Rich & Poor Freestyle,” before Grand Agent & Pete Rock came through with “This Is What They Meant.”
PETE ROCK PRODUCTION AND HIP HOP BARS!
That’s the kind of combination that always gets my attention!
A LITTLE FKJ BEFORE HIS PRAGUE PERFORMANCE! 🎹
With FKJ performing in Prague the following evening, October 23, I wanted to give him some love on the Ride!
And what better way than bringing in Masego & FKJ with “Tadow”!
A beautiful combination of musicianship, improvisational energy, Jazz, Soul and groove.
After an hour of Hip Hop, it was the perfect opportunity to bring those smooth musical textures back into the show.
I finished the Ride with Kai Banks and “On My Worst Day,” bringing another Freedom Thursday to a close.
GOOD VIBRATIONS & HEAVY BARS! THAT WAS THE JOURNEY!!
TWO HOURS. DIFFERENT SOUNDS. ONE MUSICAL CONNECTION!
We opened with Maroon 5, then let a collection of women carry the first hour through R&B, Soul and alternative sounds. Nia Smith, Nia Chennai, Chlöe, ENNY, Amaria, Jorja Smith, Kehlani, Neya, Ari Elle, Nyah Grace and more brought their own flavors to the Ride.
Then the second hour arrived with Godzilla, ATARASHII GAKKO! and a sudden shift into HIP HOP!
J. Cole, Slum Village, Rejjie Snow, Mos Def, GZA, Ghostface Killah, Wu-Tang Clan, Freddie Gibbs, Lupe Fiasco, Grand Agent and Pete Rock all helped keep that Hip Hop energy moving.
And with FKJ coming to Prague, Masego & FKJ’s “Tadow” gave us a beautiful musical moment before Kai Banks closed things out.
FROM SUNDAY MORNING TO TOKYO CALLING, WU-TANG CLASSICS AND FKJ!
That’s what I call a musical journey!
Freedom Thursday is always a vibe! It’s just WHAT vibe will it be?
This is why you listen. You can’t WIN unless you play!
Good music as always… KEEP RIDING WITH DIESAL!! 🎶🔥
