This week’s New Music Tuesday was Uber intentional.

I realized that recently I had been leaning heavily into soul and Hip Hop on Tuesdays and not giving enough space to alternative and rock textures. So this episode corrected that balance while still staying true to the core principle of the show. Good music only.

We opened with Lana Del Rey and immediately created a different atmosphere. From there Jorja Smith, Yaya Bey, and Jai’Len Josey carried the emotional weight with soulful depth and vocal clarity. Ebubé and Tyler Lewis added warmth, while Galdive and EJAE introduced lighter alternative textures.

Aiyana-Lee continued the R&B thread before Thundercat and Mac Miller blended musicianship with feeling. Genesis Owusu brought experimental edge, and Bryce Vine added energy. Eileen Alister and Deb Never helped keep that alternative presence strong, which was a deliberate shift for the night.

The tempo lifted with Juls and breakbeat sounds from Your friend daao before Tasha LaRae and DJ Spen delivered a long dance remix that opened the floor up properly.

From there we transitioned into the Hip Hop lane. Larry June, Curren$y, and The Alchemist provided smooth production and calculated bars. The Game connected with DJ Drama and Benny the Butcher for street energy. Domani kept it reflective. JID and Baby Keem brought sharp modern presence. Killer Mike added gravitas. Nipsey Hussle reminded us of legacy.

The show also moved through Kut One, Pro Dillinger, and SUBSTANCE810 for underground grit, then touched dancehall with Popcaan. Ms Banks brought South London flavor, and we closed with soulful textures from Pale Jay and Common Saints.

This was one of those Tuesdays where genre walls disappeared. Alternative. Soul. Hip Hop. Dance. Dancehall. All in one space.

No matter the genre, the standard stays the same.
