Africa Incorporated. 420 Special Smoke Session
This episode of Africa Incorporated landed right on 420, and I had to let the show breathe a little longer than usual.
Normally I wrap things up at 4pm, but there was no way to cut the energy short on a day like this. The vibe was locked in, and it felt right to stay with the listeners and celebrate the moment properly.
The show opened with that laid back energy, easing into the session with artists like Popcaan, Khruangbin, and Rihanna, setting a tone that felt relaxed and intentional. From there, the groove moved into modern R&B with Jhené Aiko and Lucky Daye, keeping things smooth while building the atmosphere.
As the session developed, the hip hop side stepped in heavy. Keith Murray, Mic Geronimo, and Styles P carried that raw energy, while J Dilla and MF DOOM brought in that underground texture that always sits right in this kind of setting.
The reggae presence stayed strong throughout. Collie Buddz, Sizzla, Koffee, and Jah Cure added that natural connection between cannabis culture and sound system tradition.
Then came the classics.
Cypress Hill, Redman, Wiz Khalifa, Dr. Dre, and Tha Alkaholiks all brought that unmistakable smoker energy that has lived in hip hop for decades.
Somewhere in the middle of it all, I broke down the origins of 420 — how the term started and how it grew into a global culture that connects people through music, lifestyle, and shared experience.
This wasn’t just a playlist.
This was a full session built for the heads.
If you know, you know.
