New Music Tuesday returned with another ride across the musical landscape, opening with the rich rhythms of amapiano. Aymos and Mr Bow set the tone with Sorria, bringing uplifting South African energy before the show transitioned into smooth soul and R&B through Dylan Sinclair, VEDO, Kyle Dion and F3miii. Sam Smith, FKA twigs and Jorja Smith continued the journey, proving once again that New Music Tuesday is built on discovery, not boundaries.
The first hour then shifted into Afrobeats and Caribbean flavors. Amaeya, Shenseea, Cham, Tekno and Famous Pluto kept the energy rising with fresh releases that highlighted the diversity of today’s African and Jamaican sounds. Adrian Younge’s Shake Down brought a funky finish to the opening hour, leaving listeners ready for what was coming next.
The second hour opened with Momo Boyd, Trevor Jackson and Smino before Raz Fresco made two appearances with tracks from his latest project. Those records set the tone for a hip hop heavy hour packed with lyricism and sharp production. Nipsey Hussle, Tha God Fahim, Black Milk, Papoose, Justo the MC, Troy Ave, J Hus, Baby Maine, AKTHESAVIOR and Larry June all kept the momentum moving, proving once again that independent hip hop continues to thrive.
To close the ride, we eased back into soulful territory with Children of Zeus, DUCKWRTH and _BY.ALEXANDER before KiNG MALA brought the curtain down with an alternative edge. It was another New Music Tuesday built on movement, discovery and musical culture, traveling from amapiano to soul, Afrobeats, dancehall, hip hop and beyond.
This is what New Music Tuesday does… finding what’s new and showcasing it for the masses!
