New Music Tuesday came loaded with flavor this week! We opened with Prince and “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore” from the newly released Timeless, before jumping into Erykah Badu & The Alchemist and “Echos” from Before The World Blows. That project delivered exactly what I wanted from AL and Erykah. From there the soul took over with Noa Rue, Lalah Hathaway and ROE, whose “Take It All The Way” was one of my favorite singles of the week. Lee-Rene’ brought a soulful new vibe, Akira Ræ kept it moving, and I really liked what I heard from newer artist Lucy Park. Coco Jones followed before we started changing the temperature.

Electric Guest & La Reezy helped move us toward the electronic side, Clara Hill & Crackazat pushed it deeper, and Rochelle Jordan once again brought that Deep House energy. We finished the first hour in Africa with Thuto The Human giving us the Amapiano and Ama Louise closing things out with Afro House.

Hour two was time for BARS. Busta Rhymes & J Dilla opened it with DILLAGENCE II, and it was exactly what you would expect from that combination. Apollo Brown & Skyzoo followed with a new single, while REASON, SAINt JHN and Dahi all brought strong new projects. Then came probably my biggest surprise of the week: CZARFACE and Frankie Pulitzer, aka actor Tom Hardy! Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer is fierce, and hearing Tom Hardy go bar-for-bar with Method Man on “Mad Technology” was something I definitely didn’t expect.

Kool Keith & Mike Redman came through with another dope project before we doubled back to Busta and Dilla. Fat Joe and Jadakiss brought Organized Rhyme, AZ Chike pulled Tyler, The Creator into his new project, femdot. dropped a solid EP, and then E-40 reminded everybody that being prolific is nothing new to him by dropping a QUADRUPLE album! “Night In The Bay” brought Anderson .Paak and Al B. Sure! together over a classic sample before Fat Joe & Remy Ma and CZARFACE closed the ride.

Soul, R&B, electronic music, Deep House, Amapiano, Afro House and a second hour packed with Hip Hop, this New Music Tuesday gave us a little bit of EVERYTHING. This is what New Music Tuesday does… finding what’s new and showcasing it for the masses!
