This edition of Africa Incorporated was HIP HOP from start to finish!

We opened with Phife Dawg featuring Redman and Illa J on “French Kiss Trois.” Glory be, praise and respect to Phife Dawg! Starting there set the tone for where I wanted this show to go. Little Brother followed with “I See Now,”Talib Kweli and BJ The Chicago Kid gave us “The One I Love,” and Oddisee kept the conversation moving with “Like Really.”

The mission was simple. Keep it conscious and keep it full of BARS.

From Wu All Stars and “Soul In the Hole” we moved into Bronze Nazareth & Salute Da Kidd, followed by Ghostface Killah, Cappadonna and Raekwon on “Camay.” Different styles and different approaches, but throughout this section the words mattered just as much as the beat.

That’s really what this show became. It wasn’t about staying locked into one particular era or one corner of Hip Hop. Pugs Atomz brought another perspective before newer voices like Samara Cyn entered the mix. Frak connected with Del the Funky Homosapien, while Kurt Solid and Bronze Nazareth brought Che Noir into the journey.

Tall Black Guy gave us a change of atmosphere with “Rain Into the Nite,” before Jeezy and Brother Ali showed two very different sides of Hip Hop. Then DJ Honda, DJ Premier and Guru brought that unmistakable foundation back into the room with “What You Expected.”

We finished with something from another generation as On The Radar, Didiami and ELCALVADOR closed things out with “To Be A Girl.”

That’s what I love about Hip Hop. It doesn’t have to sound exactly the same to belong in the same conversation. There are different generations, regions, voices, production styles and perspectives throughout this show, but the common denominator remained the same.
