Another New Music Tuesday, another opportunity to discover what is happening across the musical landscape! We opened the Ride with Finn Rees and “Feel The Sun,” bringing some Jazz into the afternoon before sliding into Soul and R&B with Mac Ayres, Ovi Wood, FKJ & Lucy Park, Jessica Jolia, Cyanca, Jhené Aiko, Victoria Monét and John Legend. A beautiful way to get things moving before I decided to turn up the tempo.

Then a little House got into the mix! Vick Lavender & Angel-A brought us “Soul Travel,” followed by Rochelle Jordan & Bianca Oblivion and Hatiras. From there, Mavo introduced some Amapiano before we moved into Reggae, Dancehall and African rhythms with Chronic Law, Yemi Alade and Sevana & Teflon Zincfence. That combination of sounds carried us through the end of the first hour.

Hour two came in HOT!

LaNell Grant, Porsha Love, Tylynn and TuKool Tiff kicked things off with “It Ain’t Sweet,” and from that point, the Hip Hop store was officially OPEN! Apollo Brown & Skyzoo, Styles P & araabMUZIK, I Born, Talib Kweli & Planet Asia, Tierra Whack, CRIMEAPPLE and MichaelAngelo all brought something to the table.

We also got into some Pac Div, who appeared twice with music from Still Sealed, Vol. 1, alongside Your Old Droog & A-Reece, Casshan & YAMZ, The Musalini and Quavo & T.I. Plenty of different flows, production styles and lyrical approaches throughout that stretch. We went hard for most of the second hour!

But you know I like to keep The Ride moving. TANISHA brought us back toward R&B, The Avalanches introduced another electronic texture, and ALA.NI & Adrian Younge closed things out with “Face in the Evening,” bringing us right back to Soul.

What I enjoyed about this show was the combination of familiar artists, fresh releases and names you might be hearing for the first time. There is always something new waiting to be discovered, and that is exactly why I keep digging!
